Notice of the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province on Soliciting Industrial Application Demands and Major Achievements of Brain-Computer Interface Technology

Yue Ke Han Ji〔2026〕No. 1314

Science and technology authorities of all prefecture-level and above cities, relevant public institutions, institutions of higher learning, medical institutions, health and elderly care institutions, cultural and sports institutions, enterprises and various entities with scenario-based demands:

Brain-computer interface (BCI) is a cutting-edge disruptive technology integrating life sciences, artificial intelligence and information technology, boasting extensive prospects for practical application in fields including medical rehabilitation, people’s livelihood and health care, industrial safety, education and entertainment, as well as transportation. To accelerate the development of the new track for the future brain-computer interface industry, precisely drive technological research and development as well as product iteration of brain-computer interfaces, promote large-scale demonstration applications of brain-computer interface technologies across various sectors, and build an industry-university-research-user collaborative innovation platform featuring demand-driven development, scenario-based implementation and achievement exhibition, we now publicly solicit industrial application demands and major achievements of brain-computer interface technologies from all sectors of society. Relevant notices are as follows:

一、Purpose of the Solicitation

Guided by real-scenario demands, comprehensively identify pain points, difficulties and bottlenecks in the application of brain-computer interfaces across all industries and fields, collect practical application needs from enterprises, public institutions, organizations and frontline industry practitioners, and compile a list of scenario-based demands for brain-computer interfaces. Systematically sort out the achievements in policy support, cutting-edge progress, technological research and development, industrial transformation and application promotion of the brain-computer interface sector in our province, and form a list of major achievements related to brain-computer interfaces. Strive to build implementable, replicable and scalable industry application benchmarks for brain-computer interfaces.

Our department will select a number of demand for major benchmark scenarios and landmark achievements, which will be publicly released collectively at the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Conference on Brain Science and Brain-Computer Interface Industrial Innovation. Relying on the list, we will organize research institutes and brain-computer interface enterprises to carry out supply-demand matching and targeted technological research. High-quality demonstration demands will be prioritized for inclusion in provincial science and technology program support and recommended to the national authorities.

二、Objects and Scope for Solicitation of Industrial Application Demands

This call for submissions is open to all industries without restrictions on sectors, scenarios or business forms. It focuses on the actual usage, renovation and upgrading, and innovative pilot demands of various entities. Priority will be given to scenario demands that are ready for implementation, have clear application value and can be piloted and promoted, mainly covering the following fields:

1. Demands in Medical Scenarios

Practical demands of medical institutions at all levels in the diagnosis and treatment, clinical intervention and rehabilitation training of neurological diseases, including but not limited to demands for screening and assessment, intelligent rehabilitation, neuromodulation and functional reconstruction for traumatic neurological diseases, mental and psychological disorders, as well as chronic and degenerative neurological diseases; demands from real scenarios such as clinical brain state monitoring, monitoring and intervention of patients' cognition and emotions, brain-controlled prostheses, brain-controlled exoskeletons, and interactive assistance for paralyzed patients.

2. Demands in Wellness and Elderly Care Scenarios

Scenario demands for elderly care institutions, health and wellness centers, disability service organizations, community service platforms and other venues, including but not limited to: intelligent demands for cognitive assessment, emotion monitoring, sleep intervention and health care monitoring for the elderly; demands for living assistance and safety early warning for disabled and semi-disabled elderly people; scenario demands for barrier-free interaction, independent living support, communication assistance, physical and mental state regulation for people with disabilities.

3. Demands in Industrial Scenarios

Industry scenario demands for manufacturing enterprises, high-risk operation enterprises, engineering enterprises, intelligent manufacturing parks and others, including but not limited to: safety management demands such as operator fatigue monitoring, attention early warning, mental workload assessment and risk prediction for high-risk posts; intelligent manufacturing upgrading demands such as industrial remote control, intelligent interaction of unmanned equipment, perception of production operation status, and optimization of human-machine collaborative operation.

4. Demands in Education, Culture and Entertainment Scenarios

Scenario demands from various schools, scientific research institutions, sports training bases, cultural, tourism and entertainment enterprises, including but not limited to: monitoring of students' learning status, attention assessment, academic situation analysis, adaptive personalized teaching, mental health screening and counseling demands; athletes' concentration training, competitive state regulation, scientific physical and mental monitoring demands; innovative scenario demands such as immersive cultural tourism, digital interaction and new intelligent entertainment experiences.

5. Demands in Transportation Scenarios

Scenario demands of transportation operation and road management authorities, rail transit operators, various automobile manufacturers, low-altitude/aquatic transportation enterprises and aviation enterprises, including but not limited to: monitoring requirements for drivers' brain fatigue, attention and emotional states, driving risk early warning, and intelligent human-vehicle/human-machine mind interaction control; evaluation requirements for mental workload and operational mental management of transportation practitioners; innovative scenario requirements such as brain-computer collaborative control for rail transit, low-altitude aircraft and special operation vehicles, and brain-aided decision-making for road network scheduling.

三、Targets and Scope for the Collection of Major Achievements

We extensively solicit landmark and groundbreaking major achievements from competent government authorities at all levels, as well as enterprises, public institutions, institutions of higher education, research institutes and medical institutions engaged in cutting-edge research and development, industrial implementation and industrial policy research and planning of brain-computer interface technology. The achievements shall cover major policy planning in the field of brain-computer interfaces, cutting-edge fundamental breakthroughs, innovations in invasive and non-invasive core key technologies, industrial transformation of technological achievements, research and development of benchmark innovative products, and large-scale implementation and application cases.
