On May 20, 1747, Scottish Navy physician James Lind divided 12 scurvy crew members into 6 pairs, each receiving a different dietary supplement every day. The results showed that supplementing with vitamin C could treat scurvy. This is the famous "scurvy clinical trial", which opened the way for modern clinical trials. To commemorate this historic event, in 2005, the European Clinical Research Foundation Network (ECRIN) collaborated with the United States  Together with Canada, it is proposed to designate May 20th as International Clinical Trial Day.

What is a clinical trial?

In standardized terms, clinical trials refer to systematic trials conducted on the human body (surrounding or healthy subjects) to discover or verify the clinical medicine, pharmacology, and other pharmacological effects, adverse reactions, or absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion of a certain investigational drug, in order to determine the efficacy and safety of the drug.

Simply put, clinical trials are a necessary path in overcoming diseases. The design of each clinical trial is to use the most scientific approach to find updated and better treatment methods to help patients.

Clinical trials are a crucial part of the medical field. They are not only an important driving force for the advancement of medical science, but also a key way to bring hope for new treatments for patients. To enable the public to actively understand clinical trials, pay attention to the latest developments in medical science, and let more people understand the importance of clinical trials, promoting the continuous progress of medical research.

The Second Clinical Research Institute Exhibition and Guangzhou Clinical Research Industry Fair (referred to as the Clinical Research Conference) is committed to promoting exchanges and cooperation in the field of clinical research. It is a high-quality and efficient project docking meeting. The Second Clinical Research Conference will be held from August 23rd to 25th this year in the B area of the Canton Fair exhibition hall. The clinical research meeting will focus on showcasing the GCP research and service level of medical institutions, clinical studies initiated by researchers, and the results to be converted CRO and clinical trial related service providers help medical enterprises connect clinical research projects, improve the efficiency and quality of clinical research, translational medicine, and pharmaceutical device development, and promote the high-quality development of the clinical research industry.
